Fallout 3 can't come soon enough
Any RPG player worth his gamer badge would acknowledge the Fallout series as one of the genre’s all time classics. The post nuclear setting mixed with 50’s era vibe, the memorable characters , the SPECIAL system, and the way you could turn your foes’ torsos into chunks of flesh when using the Minigun (the splatter sounds were glorious), all woven into a deep and open RPG experience.
The sequel has been a long time coming. I’m a little apprehensive with the treatment Bethesda is giving it (don’t get me wrong, I loved Oblivion, and Morrowind, and even Daggerfall), specially since the previews have been ranging from flat out ecstatic to cautiously optimistic. I’m sure it won’t capture all of the magic that the previous games have, but hey I still can’t wait to play it. It’s easily one of my most anticipated for this year and I’ll probably lose countless hours playing it.
Gametrailers have put up a fantastic retrospective on the series, and it sure ain’t helping my anxiety. I’m not sure when the release date for the Asian version is but I really hope it isn’t too far off from the North American release. Here’s hoping the game lives up to the insanely high standards that the previous games have set (excluding that console version shown on the video, holy shit that looks terrible).

It’s already out for the PC on the internets and it’s been out on the 360 with custom firmware for weeks now. I’m going to wait a little bit first to get my 360 back so I don’t have to lug my other one from room to room … and I want the 360 version so I know it’s what the developer intended for us to see. I don’t really have a gaming system anymore and I want to see the wasteland in all it’s glory.
From the reviews, it’s been getting solid to perfect ratings. Seems like they really caught the old school feeling of the wasteland. Biggest thing I’m worried about is 3rd person view where Oblivion felt like the character was walking on ice.

Yeah, the leaked version has been out for weeks, but it doesn’t work on Asian consoles heh. I was going to do another post on all the glowing reviews Fallout’s been getting and how my fears have been unfounded, but I’ll post about Fable instead.
I’m in the same boat as you, I’ve all but given up on PC gaming (Peggle’s still great for quick fixes), there’s no way my 2 year old rig can run this. Plus gaming on the couch and on something bigger than a 19-in monitor is a lot more fun.
A lot of PC diehards are sticking to their rig though in part because the mouse is probably a lot better in navigating the inventory / UI stuff, but mostly because of the modding possibilities once the tools come out. Assuming you have the rig to play it would the modability be a reason for you to choose the PC version? Oblivion had some great mods, I probably had at least 10 enabled while I played it (mostly UI improvements and texture packs) but I doubt that would be enough to make me play it on PC.
From the reviews and comments I read, the 3rd person perspective is ass and totally not worth it, the animations look horrible and I’m guessing that walking on ice feel is still there.
